Disabled people both need and deserve adequate, affordable and available support systems.

Far too many of us are relying on abusive caregivers because there are no other options.

It’s incredibly hard to heal or even exist when you’re trapped in an abusive situation.

We are also far more likely to experience physical abuse and sexual assault because we are dependent on others.

That dependency makes us easy targets.

If we had adequate safety nets that ensured independence and autonomy, we would be much better off.

I plan to write an article about this when I recover my baseline from my move… but for now I will just say if you’re experiencing abuse .. you’re not alone.

You don’t deserve it.

You didn’t do anything wrong.

You deserve safety, comfort and love.

One day I hope we will all have that.

@broadwaybabyto I've seen this kind of abuse in HC where I worked for 35 years. I'm afraid of illness now.

People who don't look after their health or have post viral illness are in for a wake up call.

The abuse is also a problem in Canada too. Mostly mental abuse becasue workers don't like their jobs or they don't have good people skills. HC training should focus more on the soft skills.
