Amsterdam is pushing forward with a plan to install small escape steps along its canals, with as much as 100,000 euros set aside to help cats and other animals get out of the water if they fall in.
According to Dutch News, the proposal gained momentum after data showed that at least 19 cats drowned in Amsterdam’s waterways in 2025.

Vrijwilligers van de Partij voor de Dieren hebben kattentouwen opgehangen langs het water aan de Snelliuskade in Utrecht. Dankzij die touwen kunnen katten die in het water terechtkomen toch weer op het droge komen.
