Probably just a coincidence that Apple is getting into a very public confrontation with one of the most important democratic institutions in the world
@mattiem while they had no problems whatsoever complying with the Chinese legislation 🥸
@nutsmuggler @mattiem Isn't that a feature of democratic countries? Apple can push back and negotiate instead of complying with everything without risking losing business? See UK encryption laws... we can agree that it wouldn't have benefitted users to add backdoors, right?
@inket @mattiem it’s probably something to be judged care by case. I agree with you about the Uk case, but here I see a much more confrontational attitude. And I don’t have any faith in Apple’s press releases. Zero. Zilch. (And I have been an Apple user since before it’s was fashionable)
@nutsmuggler @mattiem If I personally had zero faith in their stated values I would look for an alternative, because that's a pretty big incompatibility. It's actually one of the reasons why I avoid Google services.
@inket @nutsmuggler I also do not have zero faith. However, we also now know that if they are pushed, they will sacrifice some values.
