@KF5QHQ Planning a totally separate station at my QTH using temporary station for that event: outside vertical antenna, 50’ feed line, operating table, etc., at opposite end of house from my tiny everyday all-indoor QRP mag-loop ham station. Have operated 1 QRP (5W) radio, CW, two operator, all natural power in past with good results. #HamRadio #FieldDay #OldNeedAC

@n8dmt very cool! Looking forward to seeing this year's setup! I assuming you're doing this under your call sign, and just a bit away from the qth?

Contemplating skipping the club setup next year, doing something similar.

@n8dmt I do love the chameleon stuffs, I have the 49:1 and wire. I've been contemplating expanding the collection (decided my budget wasn't there for the full mpas kit at the start), or snagging some of the alternatives - though most of those are no longer much cheaper.

@KF5QHQ A CHA TDL kit can be expanded into multiple other antenna types with some cheap big box hardware store add ons. I have captured multiple very usable antenna setups based on that starting point at my qsl.net site. Have setup and used many of the self standing configurations (no trees available in my operating areas). Lots of fun with antennas at this end. 73

This is super cool. I have a TDL and used it in the delta loop config and as a vertical + radials but didnt realize there were so many other options

Another cool thing is chameleon sell an adapter that mounts the CHA Hub onto a surveyors tripod. I got an “elevator” tripod and it enables me to get the hub up an extra 10 feet or so above the ground which is not much but maybe better than nothing

I will have to experiment with some of these other configs

@KD3BTG @KF5QHQ Curious about the elevator tripod. Any pics? Does the TDL seem stable up at that height? I have had mine up at 10’ with the PVC masts/guys and it was very stable (but took some doing to setup and take down safely). A surveyor tripod with extra height sounds nice!

@n8dmt @KF5QHQ

Here is a pic of the setup in action. There’s nothing there for scale but it’s ~10 feet from the ground to the base where the whips come out.

@KD3BTG @KF5QHQ Super!!! That extendable tripod looks great! Would like to get one of those at some point to supplement/replace my PVC masts. (Can you share a make/model for your extendo-tripod?) I might also build a DIY 5/8-11 to 3/8-24 adapter setup made from COTS hardware parts assembled into a 4x4x2 inch PVC electrical box. A few bolts, washers, and nuts should make this work. Can add options for radial lead connections, etc. #HamRadio #PortableAntenna
