Apple: Our Apple Intelligence (AI) totally secure, trust us. It wiil change your life.

Apple: BTW, Apple Intelligence (AI) is not available in the EU because of safety concerns.

Me: Maybe Apple Intelligence (AI) is not secure and private, otherwise it would have been available in EU too ๐Ÿคจ

tl;dr: Avoid Apple Intelligence (AI) on your iPad or iPhone or Mac. It is powered by Google Gemini.

@nixCraft It could be, I am not sure, the apple ai runs in the usa. And the reason it is not allowed in eu is pi data of eu consumers will be handled in the usa, which is forbidden. Thats my guess.
@hanscees @nixCraft I am in the EU and have pesky Gemini on my Android Handy ๐Ÿ˜ I would love to de-google my phone!
@connynasch @hanscees @nixCraft you may not be able to uninstall it, a widespread issue with many Google apps, but you should be able to disable the Gemini app in settings.

@marjolica @connynasch @hanscees @nixCraft My old Android 11 device that has not had any Android updates (not even security updates) for a few years now got Gemini installed on it maybe a year ago now.

I was able to uninstall Gemini fully on that phone.

Even before Gemini popped up on the phone I had stopped using it for everything except two apps that help me support my remaining elderly parent.

@the_wub @connynasch @hanscees @nixCraft yes, I think that was the case with my old (Sony) phone. However I ditched it once they stopped providing security updates and the new one (a Samsung S25) is as I describe. It also included a load of (for me) AI nonsense features all of which I have turned off.

Notably with the latest Samsung UI 8.5 update they recently sent me a new set of T&C (pages and pages, which if you asked to look at them had no back button to the accept screen, duh). Anyway reading the T&C (I'm a bit paranoid that way) I note they're reserving the right to charge for use of AI features in future.

You can't directly disable or uninstall Gemini on any Android I have, but you can set some other App as assistant/search and then disable that.
@raymaccarthy @connynasch @hanscees @nixCraft not sure how I did it now, I know with the old phone I had to switch to the old google assistant first to get rid of Gemini.
Noting there is still an an App on the phone called Samsung Cloud Assistant, which I can't even disable. It does seem to have been using data. However I have now stopped it and will see if anything breaks.

@connynasch @hanscees @nixCraft
try setting Google Assistant instead of Gemini (may only work for some versions of Android & phones/tablets). Assistant then can be disabled in Settings > Apps.
Gemini App can't be disabled.

Also uninstall or disable "core safety" or similar named app. It's Google "spyware".
