watchOS 27 drops the series 6, 7, 8, 9, and the first Ultra too??
@schwa I’m honestly baffled. That’s more generations dropped than they continue to support
@harshil oh no 😭 RIP my Ultra I
@harshil what?! *cries in Series 8*
@harshil @colincornaby Interesting the labelling is inconsistent regarding will it let you use an iPhone SE 2, while full-on iOS 27 seems to require a SE 3?
@pmcg @harshil @colincornaby they showed iPhone SE 2 as supporting iOS 27 in the keynote
@mackuba @harshil @colincornaby yeah in that screenshot i shared it's inconsistent

@harshil WTF? 😢

(I have a Series 7 Cellular and paid Apple to replace its battery last summer)

@harshil wow. That’s probably one of the worst generational drops in a long time. Time to upgrade from my 6

@harshil Does iOS allow pairing with an older watchOS?

(iOS 27 with watchOS 26 in this case)

I’m probably fine with no new features (are there any?) on my Apple Watch, if I can still do everything I currently do with my watch (mainly health tracking and notifications).

@rob @harshil it does, but eventually things will start to fail. Apple Pay is great, but it may stop working because you won’t be able to add new credits cards on the watch. Things like that.

@wtrmt @harshil Ouch; that's actually a use case I forgot to mention.

In 99%+ of shops I pay using my Apple Watch…

@rob @harshil for me it’s the killer app of the watch. Even though I train everyday with it, paying for stuff with the watch is quite liberating, much better than taking out your phone.
@harshil can’t wait to see people justifying this! *cries in Series 9*
@harshil apparently this was a mistake, and S9 is supported Bet someone used AI to generate the slide deck and didn’t notice. 💀

@harshil Yup. My Ultra is left behind. <5 year old premium device and a big old middle finger from Apple. I won’t be buying another Apple Watch. They’ve guaranteed that.

For those interested: the Garman vivosmart 5 is cheap, its battery lasts longer, it shows you the time, and it’ll tap you for phone notifications.

That’s all I really want. Thanks for the push, Apple. 🖕

@harshil Heads-up, https://www.apple.com/os/watchos/ was updated to reflect that Apple Watch Series 9 supports watchOS 27.
OS - watchOS 27

watchOS 27 with all-new Siri powered by Apple Intelligence and new features for a more responsive and delightful experience.

Apple
@harshil It looks like it supports the Series 9 as well. Losing the Ultra 1 is crazy though.
