Technical solution could help #Shetland #walkers ward off biting beastie

Digital creator and #ShetlandTimes contributor Mark Burgess is behind the new application, which could provide welcome relief for walkers and other #outdoor #explorers.

Similar #data has been used before to help fight against the #midge in mainland #Scotland.

But the new app has been specifically designed to take account of Shetland’s own conditions

Itching for midge repellant? new app could be the perfect solution

‘The app takes into account typography, environment and landscape features’

@paka It will be interesting to see how well it works. But in the meantime this is us taking traditional precautions

@Wen

The traditional precautions which were captured in your photo shoot for the cover of 'Midge Monthly'  are are best options.

It seemed as if the protection offered by the app was simply avoidance of currently affected areas but, perhaps, I missed something.

@paka Midge dodgers monthly 😅

@paka I did have a faint hope that the phone mic could be used to amplify a ‘deadly’ ultrasonic midge repellant. I think a hood and cream will be our best bet for the moment.

Not that I am unappreciative of the effort I should say. It’s just some time you just have to go, midgies or no.

@Wen

My initial thought at first as well. But no mention the the article. We can but hope.
