I think most people agree: Star Trek series tend to have a not-so-good first season but get better with the next seasons

I'm curious if anyone started watching any Star Trek series from the second season and never watched the first one? Is it still good? Is catching up difficult?

@nepo
This is true. It depends on the show. 80-20 era Trek had relatively self contained episodes. I think its still good but also depends on the show. With TNG I kinda recommend skipping season one the first time
@chillybot and in your experience, do the people that skip it catch on quickly on the second season?
@nepo I don't know. I liked Enterprise Season 1, more than 3 and 4.

@nepo dunno, like...TNG has its most awful episode in the first season, but also has the Horny episode which is amazing(like, more horny than usual)

Im also a ds9 hater so depending on your tastes you might not want to listen to me.

@nepo I recommend folks who want to start in #StarTrek #TNG do so starting in the third season. Once they get into it, I encourage them to go back to seasons 1 and 2 (especially 2) since there are a lot of really good episodes.

#DS9 should start at the first season, but perhaps a curated subset of episodes.

#VOY also needs to start at the pilot, and honestly almost all the first season episodes are pretty good. With both VOY and #ENT, the first season is on par with the rest.

#SNW, #LowerDecks, #PRO are great from the start and awesome for newcomers. However #TOS, #TAS, #PIC, and #JJtrek should wait until they are #Trekkies.

#TheOrville is also a good jump-in point.

In the fan films, there was also a terrible TOS-era fan-fic where the humans don't act like humans and then they rando jump 800 years into the future because they couldn't keep themselves straight with canon. Just skip that and try Phase II/New Voyages and Star Trek Continues instead...better quality there.
