My e-bicycle has Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires during summer and Schwalbe Winter Plus (with spikes) for the icy/snowy months. Yes, they are expensive. But their puncture guard layers really do work as advertised. So if you ride mostly on paved roads with a city bike and want to worry less and can afford them, get them. Winter tires only needed when your roads look like mine ;)
No, I don’t get paid for posting this. I bought these tires myself after at least 5 incidents with flat tires caused by shards of glass on the bike lane. With the Schwalbe tires those incidents have been reduced to zero over the past two years.
@jwildeboer German quality workmanship
@jwildeboer Can confirm! And I live and cycle in the city that has carnival as itd fifth season!
@jwildeboer have to keep an eye on those for the Urban Arrow
@jwildeboer I also switched after a couple of flat tires and never ran flat afterwards. (Brussels: broken glas all over the streets)
@jwildeboer the only flat you'll get will deflate slowly. I've found that very fine shards or strands of metal wire from them street brushing machines eventually get pushed all the way through that thick layer. Causing the tinyest punctures.
Can easily ride for hours on it when inflated again.
More like warning sign than having a flat.

@jwildeboer downsides: rotational mass and smoothness of ride. The contact surface is more than 0.5cm thicker than a regular tire. Doesn't flex over small objects as easy as a puncture prone tire.

Pick your poison. I like Schwalbe Marathon Plus

@jwildeboer Awesome, i think its the first time i hear of someone changing to winter tyres on the bike - i love it !
@jwildeboer They came on my bike. Thousands of miles on them and the tread looks barely used.
@jwildeboer how do spikes work when there is no snow or ice?
@mihamarkic They also help in the autumn when wet streets and leaves make things slippery.

@jwildeboer yes! I've been commuting forever on marathon plus tyres. I've recommended them to several people and none of us have any regrets. The occasional roll over broken glass just doesn't worry me.

My middle kid went from a puncture nearly every other week at uni to no punctures in a year after fitting marathon plus MTBs on their bike.

I'd love to try the winter tyres, but here in the south of England it's not worth it for the few days I might need them. I generally just walk instead!
