To lure you all into reading my serialized horror-fantasy adventure novel, I am going to do a rundown of the story so far. New chapters drop every week or so, so let's get into it.

Chapter one, "Necromancer," fittingly enough, opens with a necromancer plying their dark trade toward a mysterious goal involving reanimating the dead to dig tunnels.
What is the goal? We'll learn as the story unfolds, of course.
Chapter two, "The Barber and the Wolf," introduces two of our leads, Fang and Erryl.
These two are roadmen, travelling mercenaries under the banner Fools' Errand, and they are approaching the town of New Gordhurst, when Fang detects something approaching.

A brief aside before we continue. Fang is a Triserian, a warrior from a cursed kingdom that resulted in everyone within the borders being afflicted with an unchanging lycanthropy.
Most went mad, but Fang kept his wits, though he is still unable to shift back to human form.
Erryl Nick, his traveling companion, is a barber-surgeon and swordsman who fancies himself a bit of a detective and has a fascination with puzzles and mysteries. His trusty rapier allows him a fluidity in combat that dazzles as much as Fang's ferocity intimidates.
The two are outcasts.
Chapter 3, "Rot in the Air," showcases the two approaches of the roadmen as they dispatch some roaming ghouls. The pair decides to collect ghoul teeth as evidence to take to the nearby town for a payout; after all, they slayed some monsters for the citizens.
Chapter 4, "Mourning Chores," introduces our third protagonist, Corea Gorse, a peasant girl whose brother has gone missing in the necromancer's territory. She has been facing obstacles raising a search party, and spends an anxious morning tending to daily tasks.
Chapter 5, "Ramshackle," follows Fang and Erryl as they enter New Gordhurst, where the smell of rot overwhelms the werewolf, and Erryl has the distinct impression this hastily constructed town harbors secrets.
Chapter 6, "Egg," follows the morning ritual of Mulluck Eghart, the guardsman captain of New Gordhurst, and the right hand of the Mayor.
Eghart is immediately suspicious of the new arrivals.
Also, don't call him "Egg."
In chapter 7, "Merc Work," Erryl consults the innkeeper about fund for fending off the ghouls only to learn that the ghouls seem to be keeping people away from the town instead of attacking it.
Erryl decides to go speak with the Mayor, with Fang in tow.
Chapter 8, "Fang Goes to the Mayor," is a total lie because Fang is not allowed the Mayor's home. Instead, Erryl has a chat with Mayor Gorval, more driven by curiosity than compensation as he tries to understand this strange town.
