There was a lot that happened this week with VSB and their release of Copilot into classrooms. Here's a summary thread:

1. From the interviews, it's super clear that they have no plan for how students and teachers will use AI in schools. In the interview they barely gave a concrete example, and instead talk about his they're excited to see what happens.

2. VSB were quick to point out that they chose Copilot because of its safety.

However the main risk with AI is cognitive offloading. Becoming reliant on the tool to think.

Students who used it this week found that Copilot 13+ will happily write essays for you.

3. The mental health effects of AI are also still unaddressed. Long-term exposure can cause psychosis, as the product suggests things further and further from reality.

4. In the interview the school superintendents repeated the classic talking point that "you can't put the genie back in the bottle."

AI in schools is _not_ inevitable. We can ask teachers not to use it. We can petition the govt to stop it.
