The motion to overturn a pause on new supportive-housing buildings did not pass, with four ABC Vancouver councillors and Mayor Ken Sim agreeing with the vast majority of the 29 people who spoke against the motion. #vanpoli
The motion is called “Funding Our Services with Taxes on Major Landholders and Investors”
This is a motion that will raise property taxes on:
- Non-resident investors,
- Mansion owners,
- People with huge property portfolios.
To fund our public services.

This is all warped fiscal conservative thinking, like cutting Coast Guard stations will save money - it won't
These councillors and gov staff recommending cuts to first responders hate anything to do with public safety
It just downloads response to other services
I'm surprised to see them thinking big like this but I'm all for it.
The city recreation facilities in my part of town are DIRE. Crumbling pools and buildings built 60-70 years ago.

Commisioners say the historic investment is needed after years of underfunding and to address the 2025 auditor's report that said 72 per cent of Vancouver's recreation facilities are in "poor or very poor condition."
Warnings from Vancouver Park Board commissioners last fall that the city’s “zero means zero” 2026 budget would result in service cuts seem to be coming true as staff plan to halve the number of beaches and lakes with lifeguards this summer. Katie Hyslop reports. #vanpoli
Thank you #mayor #sim and your 0% budget increase!

Some good #climatecrisis news that proves #cities can contribute despite federal policies and roadblocks!
