Six years ago we were in the heat of the pandemic and, this very weekend, also in the middle of my crazy idea to host a 24 hour 'Lockdown' Letterheads meet.

I've spent a bit of time refreshing the content at https://bl.ag/lockdown, which includes a number of the recordings from a marathon session of presentations, interviews, demonstrations, and even a quiz.

Here's a little thread of what you can find there.

Panel Jamming* with Alphabetics Anonymous, with the sign painting collective producing painted and gilded panels across the event. You can see these, and download their designs to print and practise at home, here: https://bl.ag/lockdown/#panel-jamming-with-alphabetics-anonymous

*'Panel jamming' is a core component of any Letterheads event, with painters having fun and freestyling on work without the pressure of client expectations. During the Lockdown event, people around the world produced work which was then auctioned on Instagram and sent within and across borders to buyers. You can see lots of this here: https://bl.ag/lockdown/#panels

The Lockdown Letterheads demonstrations included these three, among others:

1. Sketching with Noel B. Weber, which followed his home studio tour: https://bl.ag/lockdown/#noel-b-weber-home-studio-tour-and-sketch-demo

2. Blending with Liane Barker: https://bl.ag/lockdown/#blending-demonstration

3. Drawn Terminals in Calligraphy with Carl Rohrs: https://bl.ag/lockdown/#drawn-terminals-in-calligraphy
(Carl also included some downloadable resources based on his analysis of the calligraphic work of Alfred Linz and its applications to sign painting.)

The Neon Museum Las Vegas shared three short videos introducing three of their most iconic signs: Barbary Coast, Sassy Sally, and Moulin Rouge.

We also heard from Tom Koch and Josef Samuel with the pair taking a look at some vintage Viennese sign painting books:

Josef Samuel is one of the subjects of the 'When Better Letters Met' series of biopics (https://bl.ag/josef) and we premiered the fourth of these at Lockdown Letterheads: When Better Letters Met Barbara Enright:

I wrote and delivered a sign painting and lettering quiz, so you can test your knowledge, or run it with friends, using the resources here: https://bl.ag/lockdown/#better-letters-quiz

In hindsight, the Lockdown Letterheads event was a crazy idea and I have no idea how we pulled it off — it was my first ever hosted Zoom event!

It would never have been possible without the brilliant and dedicated team that worked tirelessly with me behind the scenes, and the dozens of presenters that volunteered their time to entertain and educate our global audience of over 1,000 participants from 54 countries: https://bl.ag/lockdown/#hosting-facilitation-team

Thank you all. I would say let's do it again some time, but I think we could all do without the global pandemic that pre-empted it.

For now, the BLAG Meet events have been the continuation of this part of my work to bring the international sign painting community closer together: https://bl.ag/meet/
