Who actually buys designer clothes/watches etc in an airport? Genuinely curious as to how these retailers make any money and who it is that is daft enough to shop there.

@anon_opin I buy noise-cancelling headphones, to replace the noise-cancelling headphones I bought at an airport 6-12 months prior, which since metamorphised into random-loud-squealing-noise-generating headphones
@anon_opin my money is on a lot of people being forgetful and needing last minute gifts, and the even more horrible markup than regular retail being the thing that sustains the stores. You don’t need to be competitive on choice or price once someone’s checked in.
@_calmdowndear @anon_opin This. Also if you are in an international airport, the shops selling these things may be duty-free, which means you don’t pay taxes on that whiskey or whatever.

Oftentimes I think the excitement of being on holiday and occupying another life for awhile makes people a bit looser with their spending
