Jules she/herUK folks, does any sort of lockable cat proof screen door exist that can be left unattended (obviously only while we're in the house but to try and get a bit of airflow). Like this sort of thing but can be locked to the door frame not just held closed with magnets? TIA.

I only found out this morning that one of our outside cats has worked out how to open the patio door by jumping at the handle.
If it wasn't for my home automation stuff giving me a ding when the door opened I wouldn't have known, and that would have left the door open for the cats that aren't allowed outside to get out.

@jamesb we have one smart enough that we have to clip the zips on his carrier together or he can open it, one with the IQ of a root vegetable and the build of a staffie who would probably crash through the more fragile looking ones without noticing if he thought there was food outside and the entire spectrum in between so it needs to be both lockable and sturdy

Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK@jamesb @afewbugs On Nextdoor I saw some video from what appeared to be a full scale CCTV DVR but with a camera in a kitchen at lower level than they are usually mounted for general CCTV purposes - the householders were clearly using this one as a catcam (perhaps with others feeding the DVR mounted in normal positions such as guarding outside / cars on the driveway).
It picked up a Bengal who was visiting the house through the catflap - leading to a missing cat alert, as the folk there weren't sure if he was a stray. (he did have a family, but also visits other houses on his prowls)
The funniest part is he clearly noticed the camera and went up to investigate it 😸

They tend to incorporate security into practicality.
Also if you got one of the heavier duty ones you could probably do the sheet and water trough trick on the outside, without claws shredding it.

Knien@afewbugs Look into the right mesh as well. Our previous indoor/outdoor cats have chewed their way through mesh doors. We use a metal framed screen door with a door closer that snaps the door closed.
