🚄🇬🇧 Britain’s largest train operator will return to public ownership on 31 May, bringing Thameslink, Southern, Great Northern and Gatwick Express under government control. The move means publicly owned operators will account for around 80% of rail journeys overseen by Great #British #Railways.

The #UK #government says passengers will benefit from more reliable and accountable services, including extra Gatwick Express trains, more drivers to reduce cancellations, upgraded signalling and improved customer support. GTR’s 100-day plan also includes safer stations, cleaner trains and expanded online services.

Ministers described the transfer as a major step in rail reform, while operators said closer integration with Network Rail would help improve performance across the South East and East of #England.
