Stephen Colbert has a new YouTube channel, spread the word. Nothing on it besides his hilarious “Only In Monroe” cable access video from this past weekend, but… stay tuned, I presume?

It is great the Colbert is doing this, but it is super frustrating to wade through the YouTube commercials. It would be so fantastic if these videos were also available on Peertube or some other streaming network.

That would be pretty cool. It's worth putting it out there as a comment on his channel. Somebody from his team would probably see it at the very least.

Of course, since anyone can create a Peertube instance, in theory, If he didn't want his shows constantly interrupted, Colbert could actually create his own "network".
All he would need is some technical people and some money to pay for the bandwidth.
Certainly there would be plenty of people here that would love to help with the project.

Absolutely! Let's make it happen.
ublock origin will sort the commercials
Yes, for now it does. Good point. If you are going to watch YouTubes it is now pretty necessary to use uBlock origin.
Lots of people however do not know this, and if Colbert wants to reach a huge audience he can not expect them to be sophisticated enough to use uBlock.
Also, Google is constantly figuring out ways to shovel their crap into our faces. Would not be surprised to see them circumvent uBlock at some point.
These leads into a bigger discussion about how dangerous to democracy it is to have one company with a veritable monopoly on streaming video.
There is no guarantee that Google will continue to provide the same free service. They can also effectively shadow ban content by algorithmic suppression or even just loading things up with awful commercials.
At this point there is no viable alternative to YouTube.

Colbert's Only In Monroe on PeerTube
OK this is really cool!
As a technology demonstration OldCoder has hosted Steven Colber's Only In Monroe episode on Peertube.

The thread above is about how YouTube inserts their commercials and if Colbert wanted to, he could spin up his own PeerTube 'network' free from Google's ads and algorithmic control.
Credit to OldCoder for showcasing this capability! Go Fedi!

If you use Duck Duck Go as your browser, it has a viewer built in that allows you to view ad free.
@Dr_Bombay Just subscribed, eager to see what is next for him. I know he's loaded, maybe retirement? I doubt it, the dude is a supreme entertainer, and very good at what he does. Here's hoping he lands somewhere that does not require me to shell out more streaming dollars to continue watching him.
CBS lackey suits can kiss my ass.
