@reiddragon @redsad well, ultraviolet radiation destroys folate, so excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation can cause a folate deficiency.
that's bad in general (since we need folate for basic cellular function and cell repair), but it's especially bad during pregnancy, since it can lead to serious birth defects. (which, content warning for anyone who searches the web for that. it is disturbing.)
@reiddragon @redsad
fortunately, we have ways to block UV and thus prevent folate damage:
1) have maximum melanin in your skin.
2) use sunscreen.
3) cover up or use an umbrella or something while the sun is above something like 30° from the horizon.
@reiddragon @redsad oh! and also, there's lots of surfaces that reflect UV (snow, water, sand, etc). so even if you're not in direct sunlight, you can still lose folate if your skin isn't otherwise protected.
(e.g. the reflection off of snow is why it's possible to get a sunburn in antarctica)
@reiddragon @redsad
the sun may kill a lot of people, but it also helps us grow our food, so, it;s impossible to say if its bad or not,
[edit: on 2nd thought, i think i didn't use this dril tweet correctly]
This is LITERALLY every TERF out there. They are so obsessed they need therapy.
