I had to fight through the QRM to complete a 14.5 kilometer #AmateurRadio #hamradio #morsecode CW Parks on the Air #QSO with #VK4FW (Australia) #parksontheair #POTA

@N4JAW KY to Australia = 14.5km? :)

But seriously, that's a long distance contact for your portable ops, congrats! It always feels better to get a good QSO if you really have to earn it. :) How many watts were you running at the time? Or should I say "how few?"

@croyle Running 5 watts. Not unusal for me this time of year and early morning. A little early in the season though for this year. Last year between June and mid September I had multi-weekly contacts working my GRAYLINE with Andy VK5LA on 40 meters with a few of those with less than a watt. When working the GRAYLINE...

"You've got to know when to hold 'em, Know when to fold 'em, Know when to walk away. And know when to run"

@N4JAW Like the old saying goes, "strike when the anvil is hot." :)

Grayline can work wonders. Sometimes I definitely see stations in Europe and western Asia come up for me on grayling and then wink out again. And the same thing happens to the west, although there seem to be fewer stationsI see that direction, perhaps because once you get close to India it's pretty much the opposite side of the planet for me.

@croyle you're correct about the opposite side of the earth. You can only stretch that signal so far before it bends out into space.
@N4JAW Aren't you missing something : 14.5 *THOUSANDS* km ? ;-)
@F4LUB @N4JAW We should really embrace Megameter, it sounds way cooler than 1000 km
