Dance. And buy envelopes.

There's an episode of Bluey that's resonant with this.

Dance without rules.

@StefanEJones β€œWe’re here on Earth to fart around.”
@StefanEJones I read this and realise I have fallen into a trap, and need to fart around more.
@StefanEJones You mean, you are still using envelopes? πŸ€”
@StefanEJones this is the main reason I never make my own coffee.
@StefanEJones I never learned how to dance.
@Netraven @StefanEJones not much learning needed. Put on some music that makes you feel like moving and give in - move however you feel like.
@DerPumu @StefanEJones ironically it’s too late now. My hips are ruined and my spine is degenerating.
@Netraven @StefanEJones ouch. sorry to hear that.
@DerPumu @StefanEJones it is what it is.
@Netraven @DerPumu @StefanEJones
maybe you can still dance while sitting down?
nod your head, snap your fingers, wave your arms?
@StefanEJones Totally, wholeheartedly agree!! ❀️ πŸ’ƒπŸ½ πŸ•ΊπŸ½
@StefanEJones im like that old woman that takes half a day to post a letter and do shopping in a real store and have interactions with real people on the way. I wholeheartedly agree with the writer

@StefanEJones There's a commercial for Sling TV with a mopey looking guy at the bar pondering, "I wish I could just watch the game at home." Various objects at the bar come to life to inform him, "Sling lets you do that!" It keeps escalating with more specific requirements until he finally decides, well hey, I'll get Sling! And then he eats one of the talking peanuts that helped him, while the others scream in terror.

This commercial bothers me every time, but now I can specifically say "Kurt Vonnegut was right" as a mantra when I see it.

@StefanEJones I did fart around today... I need a nap
@StefanEJones
Oh sure, y'all are extolling the virtues of "farting around", but when I crop dust the office I'm a monster...
@StefanEJones On a side note, I still have 100 envelopes in the closet that I bought at Costco 15 years ago
@StefanEJones I sometimes miss the experience of observing and interacting with my surroundings, the way I did when I was still commuting to a job. However, as an introvert, I don't miss the forced social interactions. I can see the social benefits of going out to buy stuff for someone more extroverted.
@StefanEJones this is a good one, gets more pertinent as time goes on. Hopefully a reality experience will be something people will want as the horrors of the day keep getting more and more.
@StefanEJones This is also why online dictionaries and thesauruseses suck: serendipity loss. The stuff I've learnt while inefficiently thumbing for a word and going down rabbit holes.

@StefanEJones
The day I retired from my job, I sent this quote to everyone in the company.

It's one of my favorites.

@StefanEJones

Alan Watts, too:

"We thought of life by analogy with a journey, a pilgrimage, which had a serious purpose at the end, and the thing was to get to that end, success or whatever it is, maybe heaven after you’re dead. But we missed the point the whole way along. It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing or to dance while the music was being played."

@Kishi @StefanEJones Yes, this is it entirely. If you get sucked into the idea of that there's a singular end *goal* to life--make the most money, have the most sex, be the most pious, etc.--then you can justify almost any heinous thing you can think of, even if you think it's for the "greater good."
@Kishi @StefanEJones If you admit the obvious, that there's no one goal to humanity, that we're all going to die some day (yes, *you* too), then you calm the hell down. You realize we're all just here. There's no story that begins, middles, and comes to a satisfying end. There's just people, peopling throughout history.

@Kishi @StefanEJones We're born. We grow. We make communities. Some of us make babies of our own. We make art, of all kinds, including farting around. Including dancing.

That's it. The whole story. Just live. Build a society where everyone gets to *just live*.

@StefanEJones This used to be me, when it was still possible to walk somewhere and buy a single envelope. I no longer remember how long ago that was.
@StefanEJones one for @robinince , I know he loves a Vonnegut quote

@StefanEJones brilliant point but what kind of sad fuck stops dancing just because Amazon lets them pollute the earth with one click. that is an embarrassing trick to be duped by.

hopefully such specimens will be able to buy themselves a backbone when they do their online shopping.

by all means tap your little phones but also tap your little feets.

@StefanEJones efficiency crushes delight
@StefanEJones Kurt Vonnegut died in 1957, so I'm not sure this is a quote from him, unless I'm misunderstanding something about "online" and "computers"
