I’ve had #fibromyalgia for 20 years. I can pinpoint when it started (I was taking 6.170 and thought it was RSI. I think I got a B in that class because I just couldn’t spend enough time at the computer to do all of the work).

This is the first time that I’ve tried to dedicate any significant time to trying to improve my quality of life since I was diagnosed 12 years ago. Because my concerns were dismissed as me being overworked, stressed or depressed. Even now it’s hard for me to explain to people what is going on. But the long COVID symptoms sound very similar and I’ve just been masking them for the last 20 years. It’s hard for everyone to believe because I’ve been reasonably “successful” in my life but I wake up and go to sleep in pain every day and have for 20 years. And doctors still don’t know how to do anything about it. There are only 5 medications that are FDA approved for fibromyalgia and and mostly they manage the symptoms because no one knows the cause.

@irene several people in my life have chronic pain and it's so hard to explain what that means to anyone who hasn't seen it first-hand. One of many reasons I still take covid precautions seriously.
@elplatt it’s also kind of crazy how it sneaks up on you. You keep thinking the pain will go away some day until it doesn’t. But you keep hoping and and working on it because what is your other choice and people keep telling you that if you just do this one thing every day, it’ll fix it but after a few months you give up and move on to the next thing that someone swears will work.
