For anyone looking through their inboxes, Mayor Chow's responses to the Cycle Toronto email campaign were sent out on September 10, 2025 with title "RE: Complete Eglinton Now"

They included the statement "When the LRT does open, the City will be able to install the bike lanes in accordance with the Council-approved eglintonTOday plans."

What's changed since then?

@jarek This article suggests a technicality, the literal contracts expired after the repaving and the provincial legislation prevents signing new ones. If it's true it's so frustrating, because that's literally what we told them was the risk 😦

Chow and council don't really have leverage under the law. This this may require NVDA to move the conversation

Toronto backpedals on Eglinton bike lanes following Ford government crackdown

The city originally planned to install new lanes β€” creating a continuous stretch between Etobicoke and Mount Pleasant Road β€” after the Eglinton Crosstown LRT came online, but the Ford government’s bike lane bills quashed that plan

@cargot_robbie I understand that constitutionally the province has the power, I'm just upset that City and Mayor told us in September that they'll do it, and now it magically turns out our concerns were actually correct and they "can't" do it after all

Incompetence at best, outright lying at worst

Couldn't think of a better way to dampen enthusiasm for reelecting this administration in an election year with reactionary populism gaining funding. Just frustrating

@jarek I'm with you. I was at the rally ride after the first announcement of the repaving. It felt like we didn't have any choice to take council at their word that the project would complete in the Spring. Now this.

Chow's campaigning. She did plan us 20km of new bike planes despite the ban. Gas prices are high, FIFA is going to grind cars to a halt. There's ingredients there. I'm hopeful that if we fight we can gain momentum now
