Do we really need Google Search to morph into a ChatGPT answer engine?

Google is rolling out "the most sweeping set of changes to its Search product in years" with AI summaries as default, AI agent background monitoring and a major redesign of how search works.

The hidden trade-offs are energy consumption (up to 100x), privacy erosion (more data mining) and transparency loss (accountability firmly in Google's control).

@Mojeek I usually use Google without AI (via a 3rd party). But I tried Mojeek and was happy with results. So following them now and will use them more to get better idea how well it works in comparison to other options.

@Mojeek It runs a lot faster like this too. Google now gives me load screen while AI results are being computed.
