Some months ago, I tried out AI while coding because curiosity got the better of me. Pretty quickly I had to acknowledge it just slowed me down and introduced a plethora of problems and annoyances. I had to check every single detail because it continued to fuck up in endless new ways (sometimes even making colossal mistakes), it didn’t properly revert mistakes so I had to find and correct these myself and most of all just created a mess. I tried out several different models.
The one thing it could do well was suggesting a complete structure for a solution. These structures were pretty much fully copied from existing ones, I found out when examining them. Implementing them was far beyond its capabilities though.
It’s beyond me how anybody can become dependent on these things. Even properly refactoring a small function is quite often beyond its capabilities in my experience.
