Bill VE7WYCFor some reason my wife thinks that this laptop is embarassing. What's wrong with giant letters on the keys made with a paint pen? And my call sign? Lol, yes, so nerdy.
AI6YR Ben@ai6yr @VE7WYC LOL my first mechanical kb I got was a Das, but I didn't understand what they meant w their naming conventions and got when with blank keys, I eventually bought new keycaps for it because I really liked it otherwise. Still have it. But that looks like a good mode IMO. Though since I tend to fly my battlestation in the dark I prefer backlit kb

Grace R. Emlin@VE7WYC Even as a dyed-in-the-wool blank HHKB user, I don't see how DIY key labels would be embarrassing. What would be embarrassing is buying a new laptop just because the key labels wore-off on the old one.
@gre I think the fact that the letters are oversized so that you can read them from across the room.
Muro deGrizecoFor me, embarrassing was when I was out in a field of the local farm park, well away from other visitors.
I had my KX3, a wire tossed in a tree, headphones over my ears, and was trying to complete a marginal QRP 17m contact.
My wife chided me, "You're shouting!"
Annoyance. Like, who was I bothering? The cows behind the fence over there?
But most of my hobby is hidden.
I sit quietly listening, then suddenly press a radio button and shout cryptic nonsense phonetics.

I need to do a better job at working the radio. Mind my mic gain, not shout louder. Work with a better antenna.
And I need to do a better job at making what I am doing easier to understand. Probably by having a little monitor speaker, so others can hear that there is someone I am trying to talk to.
