I'm going to whisper this. So I'll choose my words carefully. I'll use general terms but am referring to specific multiple things. Please read between the lines.

Those of you that are doing things are having a good effect.

- The media is not covering you (this is a good sign. it means they dont want to bring attention to your actions).
- They are discussing you in board rooms and in decision making meetings.
- They are saying things like "we have to pause that project at that location because its currently drawing too much attention" and "we have to reframe this announcement to downplay that thing" and "we need to try these concessions to lower the heat a bit".

They are hoping you "get tired and bored and move to a new thing" so they can get back to work without interference.

Keep doing what you're doing. Join folks that are doing things if you aren't doing anything yet. Do what you can, as you can, when you can.

It is working.

@tinker
Yeah !
100% agree ! If mainstream criticizes you, it's because you're kinda stone in the shoe.
And you know how much a stone in the shoe can bother you, whatever the size of it.
@Jdb_env @tinker or they block you from their toxic sites 🤨 😁

@tinker

They are literally bombing each other to stabilize supply.

They are destroying demand in perpetuity to survive another day.

They are dying of their own self-inflicted malaise.

We are winning and everyone can see it plainly.

#solarpunk

@tinker I'd just add, keep doing what you're doing without burning out. These people in board rooms have limitless resources. So take a break, recharge, get back in there. Don't try to take them out in one hit, be the sand in their gears instead.
@bit - 1000% - Do what you can, as you can, when you can. Pace yourself. Indeed.

@tinker

We literally had our now-ex city manager tell us that he was "heartbroken" that my group has been putting pressure on the city, asking for transparency, communication, clear information, and a few other basic things that one would expect a governing body to do (that no governing body is doing at all right now).

So yeah, it's working. (He resigned way earlier than we expected, though he really wasn't the root of the problem.)

@arisummerland @tinker hahaha what a trashbag
'how disappointing you want me to do my job. im deeply hurt!'

@SarraceniaWilds @tinker

Yeah, that was basically it!

"But all the city workers care so very deeply for the city, how dare you point out things that they're not doing correctly? You wound us so!"

When all we're really asking for is to be involved in processes and decisions waaaaaay earlier than they allow the people they work for (us) to be involved in them.

The ex-city manager did admit that he inherited a very hierarchical system and also admitted that those systems could be different -- and much more collaborative -- but that also, they probably weren't going to change them on their own any time soon.

Thus, the citizens group! We truly are energized by the smallest victories, fortunately.

We helped get two really decent candidates onto the commission, and now we're aiming for the next two seats.

We're non-partisan, so the group has a lot of people with very different politics, but we all agree that we really need accountability, transparency, and clarity of communication from the city.

And fewer goddamn consultants!!!

The city, which is in a $6 million deficit, is spending almost $400,000 to do *absolutely nothing* (a "study") in my neighborhood which only fluffs city egos and pays out of town consultants.

I kid you not, every single resident of my geographically distinct neighborhood is incensed and wishes that if the city actually had the $400,000 to spend, they would have just given it directly to us (or our incredibly strong neighborhood association) because we know *exactly* what we need done in our neighborhood.

And guess what: it's not consultants!

@tinker A terrible place is not far from me. I will oppose any future terrible places, regardless of the specific nature of that terribleness.

@tinker
And if they fulfil or answer only parts:

thank them,

praise them for their prompt resonse (regadless of any delay),

evaluate the answers, (esp. search for possible contacts),

and follow up with a more specific question.

If you acquire contacts on technological or clerk level: be polite and thankful. Offer to query information they need, to shield them from political pressure = create allies.

@tinker

I'm not sure what you're talking about, but it sounds hopeful!

@tinker

Exactly.

Also, one does things because they are the right things to do, its not dependent on outcomes. Which you usually can't know anyway. Even when "nothing happens" -- that you can see.
