Love this ghost sign on Clarkston Road in Muirend. The MER refers to the nearby Merrylee Telephone Exchange, which was built in 1928. This means the sign can be dated from between that year and 1966 when All-Figure Dialling was introduced in the UK, and the MER prefix was replaced with the code 637. I've no idea which business this number once belonged to.

@thisismyglasgow Here you go. This is from the "MASSEURS AND MASSEUSES" section of Macdonald's Scottish Directory and Gazetteer, the 1940 edition. I guess MICM stands for Member of the Institute for Something Something (possibly massage)?
@bodhipaksa Cool. Thanka for that. That's great! 👍🙂
@thisismyglasgow I could not rest without establishing that MICM stands for Member of the Incorporation of Certified Masseurs and Masseuses.
@bodhipaksa It turns out it was also a chiropodist's at one point, and a hoover servicing shop, and that the unit next door still uses the same number!

@thisismyglasgow When I was researching this, I noticed a number of people describing themselves as "masseurs and chiropodists." I'm not quite sure how those things gang thegither, but apparently they used to. So that might have been the same business, or a continuation of it.

That's wild about the business next door still having the same number!

@bodhipaksa Here's the other things people posted in the comments elsewhere (including the current business using the same number!). 👍🙂
@thisismyglasgow It's nice in that last one to see the ghost sign in context.
