The former Cathcart smithy on Old Castle Road in Glasgow looking great after its recent paint job. Established some 300 years ago, it was once home to the Peddie family whose ancestors were armourers and smiths to the Cathcart family.

The approach to the early 18th century Snuff Mill Bridge in Cathcart, with one of Glasgow's few surviving mill building from the same period. This is one of city's oldest bridges, and yet from this view point your eye is not drawn to the bridge or the mill, but to the large expanse of red tarmac used to repair the road surface after it's been dug up for access to an underlying utility.

The surviving mill building (just visible to the right of the bridge) also dates from the mid to late 1700s, while the blonde sandstone tenement was built by the then mill owner in 1863 as accommodation for their mill workers. Terrace of white houses beside also seem to have been part of the mill complex.

Snuff Mill Bridge in the Cathcart area of Glasgow. Dating from the early to mid-18th Century, the bridge is named after the old mill which was once located on this site, and at the far end, a small arch can be seen over what was presumably once the mill's lade. This mill began life as a paper mill before being converted into a snuff mill, and then back to a paper mill making cardboard.

Love this bit of stained glass on a shop front on Clarkston Road on the South Side of Glasgow. No idea when it dates from, but I'm guessing around 1910.

Love this ghost sign on Clarkston Road in Muirend. The MER refers to the nearby Merrylee Telephone Exchange, which was built in 1928. This means the sign can be dated from between that year and 1966 when All-Figure Dialling was introduced in the UK, and the MER prefix was replaced with the code 637. I've no idea which business this number once belonged to.

The ornate gable of the former Cathcart Free Church (now Cathcart Trinity Church) on Clarkston Road in Glasgow. Designed by W.G. Rowan in a Gothic style, it was built in 1893.

The impressive Gate Lodge of Cathcart Cemetery. It was built in a Scots Baronial style around 1877.

The simple, but elegant New Cathcart Church in Glasgow. Designed by John Bennie Wilson and built in 1907, this stunning and unique little building was turned into residential housing in 2006.

As well as being an architect, Wilson was also one of the founders of the 3rd Lanark Athletic Club, one of the first Scottish football teams, and as their striker scored their first ever league goal.

I've just dropped off a bunch of 'This Is My Glasgow' goodies off at Sunshine No. 1 on Cathcarth Road on the Southside of Glasgow, including signed prints, these fridge magnets, pin badges, greetings cards, and of course copies of my book Glasgow Uncovered.

If you're in the area (or even if you're not!), check them out as they have lots of good stuff from lots of independent makers from all over Scotland.
