"...On Tuesday, the Grapevine police department announced the vehicle’s recovery from Katie’s Woods Park Boat Ramp, adding that the “driver stated he intentionally drove into the lake to use the Cybertruck’s ‘wade mode’ feature”...."

Grapevine Police Department (TX) via FB

"Yesterday, our Patrol Officers were dispatched to Katie’s Woods Park Boat Ramp, where a Tesla Cybertruck was in the water, near the shoreline. The driver stated he intentionally drove into the lake to use the Cybertruck’s “Wade Mode” feature. The vehicle became disabled and took on water. The driver and passengers abandoned the vehicle and the Grapevine Fire Department Water Rescue Team assisted in removing it from the lake. The driver was arrested on charges of Operation of Vehicle in Closed Section of Park/Lake and numerous water safety equipment violations.
We want to remind drivers that although a vehicle may be physically capable of entering shallow freshwater areas, doing so can create legal and safety concerns under Texas law. "

Drove my Cybertruck
Into a lake
Gee golly gee
It was a big mistake

Now there's water
Coming in through the door
Can't get out
And now there's more!

Fish are swimming
past the dash
can't believe
I paid for this in cash

I guess that wade mode
might be fake
Swimming lessons
I should really take

But still I
love that Elon guy
And another Cybertruck
I will buy

@ai6yr

“Multiple charges including not having a valid boat registration and not having lifejackets or a fire extinguisher on board the truck.”
😂

@wa7iut @ai6yr

fair. sure seems like all teslas should come standard with a fire extinguisher...

@paul_ipv6 @wa7iut And, an ejection seat, in case something goes wrong!

@ai6yr @wa7iut

hell, just doors that open without power would be a major advance...

@paul_ipv6 @wa7iut Well, you know, if they had an ejection seat, it would fire and not open the top, thus mashing you into the roof.

@ai6yr @wa7iut

if they did an ejection seat, they'd probably subcontract it to ACME and we all know how that would go.

@paul_ipv6 @wa7iut @ai6yr I’m not sure a fire extinguisher would do much: it seems that not even a a firefighter truck can extinguish one of those due to the amount of power in those batteries. (The cars burn very hot and for a very long time. Firefighters contain the fire until it finally extinguishes)

@wtrmt @paul_ipv6 @wa7iut @ai6yr

It’s not the power, per se, it’s you have the reactants in the battery present and separated by a 9 micron separator. Like thermite. All of the reactants are there, hard to extinguish

@paul_ipv6 @wa7iut @ai6yr Their 100% glued together battery packs make a single fire extinguisher useless, but a bunch of plumbed battery compartment extinguishers would do well. Similar to how Le Mans cars have plumbed engine bays, for example.

Good luck convincing a billionaire that safety is worth 250$+ per vehicle, though. Plumbing should be a standard, but it isn't.

@ai6yr definitely has an Interstellar vibe.
@kb9ens Or, Planet of the Apes? 🤪
@ai6yr @kb9ens As I recall there was something on the bottom of lake powell due to a 'production accident' from that movie.
@ChuckMcManis @kb9ens Oooh, did that end up at the bottom of Lake Powell? Is it still there, or did they retrieve it?
@ai6yr
I don't think they retrieved it, but @lauren would likely know for sure.
