Another report which stresses the urgent need for government to pull its sleeves up and embrace #ClimateAction.

We have not embraced #heatpumps at all as yet in UK, let alone realised we should be installing ones that cool as well as heat our homes.

#Labour dithering will soon be replaced by #Reform denial.

#Retrofit

UK ‘built for climate that no longer exists’ and needs urgent changes to survive global heating, report warns

Landmark report calls for widespread air conditioning and says UK temperatures forecast to exceed 40C by 2050

The Guardian

@JugglingWithEggs

In October 2024 we installed reversible (heats as well as cools) air conditioning at home.

In October 2025 we installed a large array of solar panels and 27kWh batteries to run the air con/heat pump.

If we could see the writing on the wall, why the hell can’t government 🤷

@TCMuffin @JugglingWithEggs

"the government’s climate advisers have warned in a report,"

Why do you think the government could not see what you could?

The previous government had retained rules which excluded support-eligible heating pump systems from any cooling capacity and IIUIC required them to emit warm water, not air.

FTM what took _you_ so long to see it? I installed cooling for one room no later than 2020 when it was clearly needed occasionally.

@Photo55 @JugglingWithEggs

Ouch 🤕

Well done you for being so prescient in 2020!

As for what took _us_ so long???

Working.

Caring for aged and dying parents.

Being CV during the pandemic.

Saving for a high quality, long term investment in whole house A/C heat pumps, 26 solar panels, and 27kWh of battery storage.

@TCMuffin @JugglingWithEggs
Also it may be a bit warmer in Devon.
Orkney may not need Aircon for a while, the wave will go north.

We've had panels for a while, but the numbers have not got favourabk3 for batteries yet, unless I can just buy and plug them in.
Which shortly ...

There's a lot of work to do, but don't be too hard on the current gov.

@Photo55 @JugglingWithEggs

We live in Cardiff not Devon nor Orkney...as you'd know if you checked my #Introduction toot 🙄

Please don't tell me how to react to the current government, which IMO, has been a bitter disappointment...certainly to the two of us who were life-long Labour voters 🤷

@TCMuffin @Photo55

I too feel bitterly disappointed by #Labour’s commitment and planning on domestic #retrofit.

Yes, the #Tories were horrendous, almost killing the entire industry and set back our progress by a decade.

But Labour knew this. They had 14 years in the wilderness to put together a plan to govern and rebuild this country. Apart from work on the National Grid, there is no sense they had any notion of the scale of the challenge. So yes, I’m disappointed.
