I have attempted to think this question in a short investigation entitled:

On the Phenomenology of Sock Failure.

The work proceeds from the thesis that the washing machine is not equipment among equipment, but a site of ontological unconcealment.

The socks, unfortunately, confirmed the hypothesis.
