DOJ announces nearly $1.8B fund to compensate Trump allies

The Trump administration has announced the creation a nearly $1.8 billion fund to compensate allies of the Republican president who believe they have been unjustly investigated and prosecuted. The “Anti-Weaponization Fund” was announced by the Justice Department on Monday as part of a deal to resolve President Donald Trump’s lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service over the leak of his tax returns. Democrats and government watchdogs immediately pledged to fight what they called a “corrupt” and unprecedented resolution. Trump’s lawyers disclosed the dismissal of the IRS lawsuit in a filing in federal court in Florida, where the president sued earlier this year.

Per the article:

~ "In defending the deal, the Justice Department (DOJ) pointed to a fund established by the Obama admin to compensate Native American farmers who said they had experienced racial discrimination."

Okay, what now? That's a different thing. And a red herring.

Oh good, the article calls it out:

"But that fund was not created with a goal of benefiting allies of the president who’d been previously investigated for potential criminal conduct.”

And also convicted.
I'll add that to what the article said.

Trump was convicted through a jury trial of his peers of 34 felony counts.

He is a 34-time felon ⬅️

@dalfen

and it looked like the judge had doubts about this. So, he settles to avoid the legal judgement

@griff Unbelievable... but yet what should we expect really from someone called Don the Con.

Also, he should be held accountable for tying up the courts with frivolous lawsuits (like that will happen 🙄).

@dalfen

I tried to tell people that the apprentice was a sham

smdh

@griff Oh absolutely!

Also — trump et al. negotiated the "deal" with trump's own people (who he put into office)
< grrr >

He's a con. And he has too much power.

— all presidents do really (imo) because they put so many other people into positions of power... but we have run for many years on an unspoken honor system that a president wouldn't abuse their power (though several have sought to gain more power, especially given an ineffective Congress).

But trump takes the Abuse of Power Cake 🍰

@griff My mom was into The Apprentice. It made me so crazy... she tried to get me to watch it too, and I told her no way because I had read about Trump from years past – how he worked hard to kick his tenants out of the their housing building so he could turn it into luxury housing and get more money – and it made me sick. And I knew what a freaking pig he was towards women from other things I had read & seen.

The Apprentice was just acting.

Luckily my mom stopped liking him *whew*
