We have yet to normalize booing billionaires in public, but we should definitely start.

If you’re giving a commencement speech in 2026, maybe don’t mention AI | TechCrunch

It's tough to get graduating students excited about a future shaped by artificial intelligence.

In Germany, we've even started booing their politicians who are nothing but millionaires

Germany news: Merz booed as he advocates economic reform

Shaming Billionaires for what they are, how they behave and the harm they do should be normalised.

@zackwhittaker Amen to that! Our societies should also start normalising taxing the f*ck out of them until they are no longer billionaires, and pointing out how unacceptably abnormal their existence is until that happens.

@alnitak @zackwhittaker

Strip the billionaires of EVERYTHING. No more privilege, no more power than anyone else.

Equality for all!

@zackwhittaker I can't imagine growing up in this w/a morally corrupt regime doing whatever they want.

I watched two young women who lived across the street from me try finding jobs (Cornell and Chapel Hill). Dad's from India and their mom is from the states so bigotry and racism reigns. Both are unbelieveably gorgeous (they were adorable little girls, too).

Never imagined this much evil flooding the world. Memories of protests and campaign volunteering haunt me.

Hmmm... I would suggest mooning them while playing Colonel Bogey on Swanee Whistles & Kazoos; Vuvuzelas too if you're particularly annoyed.

Don't hold back, there's no need to stop at just billionaires @zackwhittaker 😀

Daniel Muggleton had some great thoughts on that:

Normalize Lynching Billionaires!

@zackwhittaker @lisamelton I was at the CMU graduation where Jensen Huang spoke because our daughter was graduating. Our daughter tells us that there was vocal pushback from some of the graduates. It just wasn’t as loud as the booing at some of these other commencement speeches.

One young woman who was sitting near us in the audience in support of her sister who was graduating was also nonplussed. “They’ve got a lot of nerve inviting a guy who’s destroying the job market for new grads.” I had to agree.

But honestly what bothered me about Huang’s speech is that it was obviously just his canned AI boosterism speech that he must have given thousands of times. It was in no way personalized to the graduates or tailored for it being a commencement address. It felt so transactional—billionaire gives school a lot of money so school gives billionaire an honorary PhD and a platform. The students, including our daughter, deserved better.

@zackwhittaker

we're wayy past that point. i suggest boycotting all multinationals & shop as local as possible, including online services. thèn we're getting somewhere.
