#LinuxMint isn't boring ... 🤭

#Linux

@Harald LMDE is a nice approach for sure. 😉 @nixCraft
@nixCraft being boring is cool, but having to add alternative repos for everything you use to get the new versions is meh
on the other hand when old stuff stops working it's not cool either, I'd love some decent solution for this
@nixCraft I converted to debian about 15 years ago and dunno why I didn't do it sooner (people spooking me about how "difficult" it was and "outdated"... Dunno why I listened to them.Long live Debian! 😊
@nixCraft Debian stay winning
@nixCraft the best distro just keeps getting better.
@nixCraft Couldn't agree more, for the most part. Although I think the continued reliance on systemd is going to someday soon-ish become very much not a boring thing...
@nixCraft MX Linux: the most 'sudo apt autoremove' ever within a week!
@nixCraft The very reasons I have stuck with Debian since Sarge and will continue to do so. Thank you for a great write up and shout out to Debian
@nixCraft I keep thinking about switching my desktops and laptops from ubuntu to debian sid. Ubuntu just keeps getting worse and worse.
@nixCraft Damn right. I will never stop using Debian.
@nixCraft I have tested foss games on both mint and debian.
And i was impressed to see that debian was running games without any issue plus giving a better performance.
I am also thinking about shifting to debian permanently.
@nixCraft I just wish Debian would make its own web browser so I could get rid of Mozilla and Google—then it would be perfect 😍
@tomf @nixCraft Hehe that would be nice. But I guess LibreWolf or Waterfox is not on the table for you as alternative to Firefox?
@John_Ligher @nixCraft Sadly is not, yeah. I like FF, still using it. But Mozilla does some wierd stuff lately and it looks like things are only going to get worse. Maybe Ladybird or some project could help..

@tomf @nixCraft Same here, still using Firefox along side Waterfox. Sadly have not fully migrated yet.

Weird stuff as in changing their tone in the terms and conditions - or adding AI to firefox?

I do agree. Sadly having a hard time changing browser fully.

(I also read somewhere that Mozilla forks does not containerize unlike Chrome browsers, so it's not as safe? But I have no source on this).

I am a beginner in the privacy-thinking domain.. 😭 so many things to think about..

@John_Ligher @nixCraft Yeah, it's pretty problematic topic, sadly.

I do agree with Nick in his "I'm ditching Firefox & Mozilla..." video on The Linux Experiment (YT). He explains better than I could do.

@tomf @nixCraft I watched the video today and got a broader understanding of the issue. He mentioned Waterfox as one alternative so I'll try to stick to use it more.
@nixCraft I feel similar for Tumbleweed. Not necessarily a point-release, but also pretty boring. It just keeps on rollin' and doing it's job. No fuzz. Meanwhile everyone gets crazy over Arch based distros. 🤷
@ZRayEntertainment @nixCraft I'm right there with you. I have CachyOS on my laptop so I can use it as a learning tool. I sure wouldn't recommend using Arch unless you are REALLY into tinkering with every facet of the operating system. I am quite happy with the Debian flavor in MX Linux. It's a bit janky, but it works well. I'm thinking that my next Desktop Environment is going to be plain Debian over anything Arch based.
@nixCraft I’m a huge fan of Debian. Just upgraded all my servers to 13.5 and it’s without any hiccup (the servers are on another continent, so little room for error). I prefer this so much compared to the self-flagellation incurred by installing Manjaro.
@nixCraft in my corner of the world this URL does not work, at least using this particular DNS server
