Caldera Galaxy Panorama

This panorama was captured at the highest point of the volcanic island of La Palma, a location defined by its unique terrain and exceptional night sky conditions.

Il giardino delle stelle
Among rows of blooming lavender, the air filled with fragrance, fireflies appeared like small lanterns beneath a sky dominated by the summer Milky Way, a perfect meeting between the wonders of Earth and the night sky above.

The Juxtaposition of Light

These tiny insects create light through a chemical reaction involving luciferin and oxygen. It is nearly 100% efficient light, meaning almost no energy is lost as heat. It’s a miracle of organic chemistry occurring right at our feet.

Nuclear Fusion (The Milky Way): The light from the galaxy is produced by billions of stars fusing hydrogen into helium. It is the most violent and powerful process in the universe, yet from our perspective in the lavender, it looks just as delicate and quiet as a firefly's glow.

The Scale: A firefly lives for a few weeks; a star like our Sun lives for 10 billion years. Capturing them in the same frame is like seeing a single heartbeat and the history of time overlapping.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants

This photograph comes from the heart of the Sierra La Giganta in Baja California Sur, Mexico, following a two-day expedition from the small village of San Juan Londo. The final approach required an ascent of more than 800 metres by mule along a long-forgotten section of the historic Camino Real, once used by vaqueros and their donkeys to transport goods between remote settlements.

The Chemistry of the Rainbow

This image is a masterclass in Atmospheric Chemistry.

The Green & Gold (Airglow): This isn't light pollution. It’s the Earth's atmosphere "breathing" light. During the day, solar radiation breaks apart molecules in the upper atmosphere; at night, they recombine, releasing energy as this eerie, multi-colored glow.

The Pink Orbs (HII Regions): Within the arch, you can see distinct pink "bubbles." These are massive clouds of ionized hydrogen where new stars are being born. They are the "nurseries" of the galaxy.

The Lone Orange Light: That tiny spark in the dark valley is the only sign of "us." Against the backdrop of a glowing atmosphere and a billion-star galaxy, it’s the ultimate visual definition of humility.

Botswana Baobabs by Night

"I spent 10 days travelling through Botswana, living out of my car and moving through remote desert landscapes in complete isolation, focused entirely on photographing the night sky. This location became the highlight of the trip: a small, ancient island rising from the middle of a vast salt pan."

Humility: The Torch vs. The Galaxy

A human holding a flashlight — a small, technological effort to pierce the darkness.

Compared to the nuclear fire of the stars above, that flashlight is nothing. But in the context of the photo, it is everything; it provides the light that allows us to see the ancient bark of the tree and the figure of the traveler. It’s the "light of consciousness" trying to make sense of a "Light" that is unimaginably vast.
