Today we are celebrating our first birthday! 🍰🎈

As it's been a very busy year – full of new community members, new features, and more – we've written up a summary of all the things that have happened.

And to give all of you a small gift: If you press the *Check Updates* button in the 2026.05.06 version of CoMaps, you'll find some freshly updated maps that were quietly released for you yesterday!

A huge thanks to the ~25 folks that joined us for our virtual birthday party yesterday and made it a really great event! πŸ₯³ Covering a range of 14 time zones, it really showed how global our community is. 🌏 Over the course of around 2.5 hours, we were joined by some long-standing CoMaps contributors, active members of the #OpenStreetMap community, and many new faces!
@CoMaps Happy birthday!! (+1 day)
@CoMaps
πŸŽ‰πŸŽŠπŸŽˆ Congratulations!! I've been with you since the beginning, having left Organic Maps after several years of using that.
@CoMaps Keep up the great work! Looking forward to all the stuff that is coming up! πŸ™Œ
@CoMaps Happy birthday and thank you very much for your fantastic work. πŸ₯³ πŸ€—
@CoMaps Congrats to the whole team, what you do matters ! I am a picky map user and I LOVE Comaps
@CoMaps
Congrats, and thanks for showing me the way in new places
@CoMaps Happy birthday to the project and many thanks to everyone involved!
This is a great app and I'm grateful for all the improvements we've seen!
@CoMaps discovered the app through this post. Downloaded it, it looks great! Cheers!
@liebemarx yay, that's great to hear!
@CoMaps do you have plans to add features like adding reviews of places?
@liebemarx it's under active development! The work for including it in the map data of CoMaps is currently ongoing here: https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/pulls/4212

@CoMaps where in the app is the Check for Updates button?
@cubeofcheese on the "download map" screen!
@CoMaps thank you. I don't see it though. I'm on version 2026.04.23-19-Google

@cubeofcheese ah, that's why - the button is there from 2026.05.06, which is still waiting for Google Play review.

Try using `?check-updates` in the search for 2026.04.23

@CoMaps thnx for the wonderful app - keep up the good work!
@CoMaps Congrats on the achievement, CoMaps is a superb app 😊
@CoMaps Congratulations! You should see the envy in people's eyes when I show them a location which isn't in Google Maps. They always try to tell me first "Google Maps is the best". And then me: "But the data is too old..."
@CoMaps Ooh love all of this especially https://www.comaps.app/news/2026-01-05/comaps-focuses-privacy/ . Can't wait to see how many more privacy improvements get done in the next year.

Some technical changes CoMaps made to protect your privacy

@CoMaps Congrats CoMaps!

I remember the beginning, because last year we traveled to UK using Organic Maps, and returned using CoMaps.

I submitted my donation to CoMaps earlier today in fact. Keep up the great work. The year went fast.

@adventure_tense thanks so much, the support is much appreciated!
@CoMaps
Happy Birthday! πŸ₯³

I really like the way CoMaps is put together. It looks as modern as big-tech alternatives but still has excellent usability and a rich feature set. One thing I would like to see added soon is public-transport navigation not just for big cities, but for smaller areas as well, like OsmAnd offers.
Keep up the great work!
@shrek_seven there's active work to improve the public transport display and add more of it!
@CoMaps I do not like everything about CoMaps but I like the project! Mainly I use AAT and I'm used to work with files and folders. So this whole bookmarks thing is very restricted and not usable for me. But I wish you further progress. I kicked Organic Maps out and keep your app installed. Normally I design my routes with an GPX editor or with brouter and load them into AAT. CoMaps may be a fallback solution to find the shortest way home or as your intention is, to take part in the basic work for Openstreetmap. More years to come, good luck! Cheers! πŸ€ πŸŽ„πŸŒπŸŽ‚πŸŽ·πŸŒ‹πŸŽ‡πŸŽ‰πŸͺ•πŸš½πŸ—ΏπŸ•
@vegos_f06 improving the bookmarks and routing along saved routes are often-wished features and hopefully will come at some point!
@CoMaps Thanks! Don't feel stressed. Some times ago I filed an issue for handling single routes and saved tracks instead of whole folders. I have not tested CoMaps for a long time. Are there improvements of track recording? One waypoint all 20 meters might be good enough for many but it is not very accurate. There should be a variable setting from 0 to 20 meters. I do not mind about big gpx files. Routing along saved routes is possible but quite cumbersome because of the current bookmarks concept.
