@evan Yes, but not at the American border.
@evan Yes, but presumably only because the relevant authorities are doing a bad job at indexing my Mastodon server.
@evan depends on thoroughness and what they‘re looking for specifically, I guess, but I do have to pass at least a (very) surface level one every few years for work so, I guess that is a yes, I do pass

@evan

But, who knows these days?

@evan yes but I was arrested 18 years ago but the charges were dismissed via pre-trial intervention so... Background for a job yeah, background for cia probably not
@evan Depends on the used cover identity.
ARGH! Said too much already...
@evan I would but I did have to have my records sealed when I was a bit of a hooligan.

@evan One time a friend of mine applied for a job with the US Navy. He had stayed at my house for two weeks maybe 5 years before while in the middle of a move. So he had to list this in his paperwork. I just sort of assumed nobody would pay any attention to it.

But a few days later an FBI agent showed up at my house and asked me a bunch of questions.

And fun fact, SHE was someone I had worked with years before and hadn't seen since. It was like a very strange cloak and dagger reunion.

@evan (This has been "Tangentially Related Reminiscences with Geoff." Reply STOP to stop.)

@gwcoffey @evan

Thorough. And makes sense for critical positions.

Nice if background checks on Trumplings had been thorough too.

#Trump

@evan Yes, but it depends on the country. (Probably not the US seeing the server I'm writing this from, lmao)
@evan With friends like you lot?!
@evan When this first scrolled past I thought it was asking "should you [be able to]".
@evan As long as they're willing to overlook the whole international arms trafficking thing
@evan Yes! I know this one for a fact because I just did a few months ago for immigration.
@evan My whereabouts during periods of extreme economic hardship in the past aren't verifiable due to the hardship. Apparently, if I can't prove I wasn't in a Soviet, communist Chinese, North Korean or Cuban communist spy school during the various intervals, I'm guilty until proven innocent. Time to polish up my bronze busts of Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin & Mao and wistfully wish I had been able to escape the neoliberal neoconservative fascist Western hellscape, which I would never have gone back to.
