#ThoughtProvoker 🤔

I am #antiAI in the sense that the disruptive introduction of #LLM platforms into society, and damn the externalities, makes #AI utterly inhumane technology.

What I do not think is very effective, is the anti-AI #activism that involves attacking or 'ostracising' any person who uses AI or is not equally vocal in expressing negative sentiments towards the technology.

People should be pointed to all the dangers and follies of this technology, sure. But repelling all those that use AI, which is nearly everyone since AI is forced down our throat, the activism only serves to push the activist into the fringes, instead of winning people over in a growing movement.

#CALMculture is needed. Constructive activism-led movements, where people are guided on a journey from awareness to delightful #solutions. Offer a path of solution-orientation that open new opportunities, instead of just pointing out harm and laying judgment.

Grab anti-AI opportunity!

@smallcircles Disagree. Obviously there is nuance, but in the visual/literary/music arts world where I hang, generative AI should be named and shamed. We have seen incrementalism turn us into what we are now. It's time for a hard no.

@maxcooperavl yes. I'm not against naming and shaming where it is warranted and people will difference in opinion on when that is. That is all fine.

CALM culture is about considering the entire health of the ecosystem, the forces that work on them, and the activist causes that serve to enrich the culture with particular shared values and value aligned people. The activism then becomes part of a more strategic (emergent) process, that serves fostering of desirable culture in terms of inclusion and diversity.

So often I have seen newcomer fedizens complain about the hostile reception they got, by not knowing fedi culture and breaking some unwritten rule. And, burned, then move to e.g. BLuesky even knowing its flaws wrt decentralization.

It creates a discepancy with people saying "come to fedi, it is so nice here" and lived experience telling a different story.

A more calm activism turns from "this is what we don't allow" wagging finger, to "this is what we cocreate together" impetus.
