Report: Israeli soldiers said the army ordered troops to kill any man they encountered in Gaza from Oct 7 2023.

“A man, no matter what age, don’t play games with it; kill immediately," were the orders. "We need to kill him - yes, even if he is completely unarmed.”

“They even told us that if it’s a woman or a child, use your judgment, because things happen."

Israeli soldiers say orders were to kill any man encountered in Gaza

Troops admitted Palestinian men were shot regardless of age, whether they were armed and while holding white flags

@DrALJONES
How many IDF soldiers are now recognizing the enormity of what they have done?

@PeterF

Sadly, I suspect nowhere near enough. The brainwashing is such that it's felt as akin to killing animals.

"It starts in kindergarten... It's everywhere... 75 years of racist indoctrination & mass militarisation."

The Chris Hedges Report with Miko Peled, the son of an Israeli general who served in the Special Forces in the Israeli army, on the racist indoctrination and militarization of Israeli society.

The Israeli army, known as the Israel Defense Forces or IDF, is integral to understanding Israeli society.

@DrALJONES I watched a documentary about Dutch boys that signed up for the SS. Decades after the war, some were still casually saying on camera that they didn't like Jews much.

It's a certain kind of mind that will excuse itself for any behavior, and fascist armies select for that. I believe there's also quite a few psychological studies backing that up.

We must demand strict ethical discipline and zero tolererance to fascism, otherwise it will rise again and again.

@PeterF

@iwein

Fascism doesn't grow in healthy societies.

@PeterF

@DrALJONES
Yeah... I think we're not contradicting each other

@iwein

Not contradicting, but different focus - my point was about easy prevention

@DrALJONES maybe we do have a minor disagreement then. Or an outlier.

In NL (my native country) we had something close to functioning socialism in the nineties. Then we were lax against fascism prevention. Now the majority of Parliament stated that I'm a terrorist for opposing fascism. The easy prevention failed miserably.

I think the notion that it's easily prevented is a mistake.

@iwein

Semantics perhaps.

x being preventable doesn't mean the powers that be want to prevent it. It's about the motivation of the agent involved.

The oligarchs wanted neoliberalism-fascism. We plebs didn't.
