The actual publication date is doubtless a looong way off, but I’m looking forward to the upcoming new Elric RPGs. The Dungeon Crawl Classics version is the one I’ll actually buy, but I’d happily play the Dragonbane one if someone were to run it for me.

I’ve run more campaigns set in Elric’s Young Kingdoms than any other fictional setting, across Chaosium’s Elric! RPG and the Mongoose Runequest II/Legend systems.

#TTRPG #Elric

It’s non-licensed, but if I had to run an Elric game *right away*, I’d probably go with Black Sword Hack - Ultimate Chaos Edition. Very evocative and I love that it’s published under a Creative Commons license. (Wish they would sell the PDF at DriveThruRPG, though…)

@Ashigaru yeah its reasonable to assume GG wont have an Elric DCC product ready for a year or two
@synlogic4242 Crowdfunding next year, so I expect the actual release will be late 2028.
@Ashigaru makes sense. I have a TODO to try getting some of the DCC Lankhmar books before disappear. I looooooove the Fritz Leiber stories in that world.
@synlogic4242 Lankhmar is great, both the original stories and the DCC adaptation! Managed to get all of DCC Lankhmar in print, minus one of the adventures and the Rat-Snake dice game.
@Ashigaru it’s a nice system!
@Ashigaru I am running a campaign with #BlackSwordHack right now and it’s hands down the best thing I run in a while. Totally under appreciated system.
@bohemiaspielkunst I’d love to see more people post blog articles and other original material for the game, since the CC license is quite generous. But unlike Mörk Borg and Mothership it seems to be flying under the radar. It would help if it was more widely available retail-wise, I suspect…
@Ashigaru True. I also underestimated the system unless I start playing it in campaign mode. This is where it really shines. But maybe it would be worthwhile to publish some of the materials we created for our table.

@bohemiaspielkunst If you haven’t seen them already, @ng76 has done some nice character sheets and other resources for Black Sword Hack!

Polyhedral Nonsense
@Ashigaru Black Sword Hack is really cool. I'd also consider using Barbarians of Lemuria / Sword and Sorcery Codex.
@sharpcheddargoblin I love Barbarians of Lemuria and I’ve run three mini campaigns with it. I own the Codex but haven’t read it yet. BoL is a very strong S&S game, though!
@Ashigaru The Codex adds a lot of options to create a more Moorcockian feel and also brings in some good changes from Everywhen.
@Ashigaru Goodman Games kinda rubbed me the wrong way with how they handled Judge's Guild so while their Elric plan looks nice I'll probably pass on it. Curious about Free League's version but I'm also miffed at how they mangled the latest Coriolis (and basically abandoned the original).

@sharpcheddargoblin Some of the gamer discourse about the City-State of the Invincible Overlord project was a bit overblown and speculative, but I think it was a misguided project that caused more trouble than it was worth.

My only experience with Free League is the Alien RPG, which I had fun with. The Evolved Edition came out a little too quick for my taste, but I imagine there’s licensor expectations and so forth.

@Ashigaru I'm actually looking forward to the Dragonbane version more, despite being a DCC fan for a long time. I was pretty disappointed with Goodman Games' treatment of Dying Earth in their last big IP kickstarter-- the adventures were a decent mix but the new rules, classes, and mechanics were a crunchy mess, and I'm afraid of them doing something like that for Elric
@breadwizard Hopefully it’ll have a fairly light touch rules-wise like Lankhmar, I don’t think the Elric setting needs a huge amount of new rules.
