I've been vaguely aware that the is a Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad museum (note: Nevada County is in California) for a long time, but never been.
I'd heard that it was associated with a hotel, and figured maybe they just had a loop of track around there property.
I was in the area, picking up my kid from a #UnitarianUniversalist youth thing, and stopped by to check it out. It's not huge but it has legit train ride through the woods and some interesting equipment, like this #NarrowGauge #Railbus (maybe not quite big enough to count as a #Doodlebug but I'm going to use the hashtags because doodlebug fans will like it anyway). Every 2nd Sunday of the month is a Steamup Sunday, which was today, but alas I only had time to take pictures.
Here's their website. https://ncngrrmuseum.org/
We actually stayed at the associated hotel I mentioned. It's called the Northern Queen. I just ended up there because it's not quite summer season yet, so it's cheap! It's in a nice woodsy location near Nevada City. Nothing fancy, but fine.
I have no idea what happens at a #UnitarianUniversalist youth meetup. This is a church that let's you figure things out yourself anyway, and these events are organized by the kids themselves, so who knows?
I asked my son once what they talked about, and he said "sex, drugs, and public transportation", which I think shows that more UU's should be on the Fediverse.
Right now he's home and taking a nap to make up for two nights of minimal sleep.
@14mission I used to attend the UU in San Jose. lol it was easier to get to by public transit than the one closer to me in Hayward. (no church in Fremont at the time)
@MsMerope Hmm, didn't know about the one in Hayward.
The youth group is always looking for new recruits.
@14mission I recall a UU/Sierra Club bicycle camping trip for teens. We had one “chaperone.”He was the father of one of my girl friends. Several couples ended up sharing sleeping bags. In the morning, we peddled out to Jalama Beach against a fierce wind and then screamed back. We all got back to the start site together, loaded our bikes and drove home.
@ELS Jalama Beach! I haven't been there in decades!
For those who don't know where the heck we're talking about: head hwy North (compas West) from Santa Barbara. Take the road to #Lompoc. Then you take a side road that winds over hills to a beach that you can't reach any other way except that you can see if you don't blink while riding the #CoastStarlight.
