Working with cherry is so nice and smells so good¹ even if you burn it a little. The milling went well and I was really glad that even without any clamps there's no daylight between the boards and the stop-block on the mitre gauge makes it easy to get a consistent length.

Anyone got any opinions on the order and orientation of the board before the glue-up tomorrow?

¹ I have dust collection on always during all cuts and wear a respirator for rips and sanding.

Thinking I should have maybe put a clamping caul across to prevent cupping. My old glue had gone off so had to bike over and pick up some glue and just wanted to be done with it. Also, you get funny looks when you roll up to a Lowe's¹ on a bicycle!

So this build (a cover for some equipment for a friend) is coming along. I needed the panel I was gluing up to sit flush with the top of the sides but it needs to be recessed from the front by about 1¾" (4.5 cm). This is an interesting problem to a clean flat cut along the top of the side but a square edge for the panel to sit in. I did the long cut as a stop cut on the table saw and then used the bandsaw to cut it square. The second photo shows how I didn't do a good job, but a lot better than I had originally feared. The test cuts really helped to get close with the approach at least, now if I could only remember to connect the dust collection port to the correct saw while switching back and forth.

I think I like woodworking because it's basically just problem solving over and over. In fact there's very little cutting compared to everything else (and also because I'm very slow at it). The alt text describes what's happening in each step (always open to suggestions).
I've pre sanded everything but it'll get a final sand and some roundovers on the top (which is nerve racking as a last point of potential screw up after all this effort).

Oh yeah, the panel glue up turned out nicely. It's a shame that this will get a stain finish ("customer's wishes and he will be committing the heinous act). Its not book matched but I like how the grain flows between the panels (looks better without the blue shop lights as well).

@shom That's looking really nice. It's fun to see it coming together.

Out of curiosity, is that your home workshop? I'm impressed (and a little envious 😀 ) with all the tools.

@davidruffner cheers! Yeah, it's my detached and non insulated garage which serves as a two season workshop. I have aspirations of insulating and air conditioning some day but that's a lot of effort and money (unlike my tools which were all used and bargain deals from locals upgrading).
@shom Nice. Awesome about getting second hand tools. I'll have to keep an eye out for that.
@davidruffner definitely do. A lot of times it's older folks moving to warmer climate and parting with tools. You might end up hearing some stories and if you ask if there are other things they're parting with might score yourself some additional tools on deeper discount for being a nice guy!
