Two years ago tonight I was fortunate to witness one of the best displays of the Aurora Borealis that I have ever seen. A remarkable sky lit up to the naked eye and made more unique as it was covering most of the southern sky. The first shot is a stitch of around eighteen individual shots in order to fit the whole display into one frame #Aurora #NorthernLights #Aberdeenshire #Scotland
I remember that one well @jimfrost thee are fabulous images πŸ‘
@jimfrost @scozmos I remember that one, too, although we didn't get as good a view of it. Where were the photos taken, if you don't mind my asking?
@ravenbait @scozmos These were taken in the Lower Donside / Alford area πŸ‘
@jimfrost @scozmos Oh, nice! Haven't been up that way for a few years now, but I remember the skies being deliciously dark whenever I had to drive home at night from Alford. We lived in Potterton back then.
@scozmos Thank you πŸ™πŸ˜€πŸ‘

@jimfrost that was a remarkable display! I'd been out for the evening, came home and saw the reports, and stuck my head out of the window looking north. Nothing.

Then someone posted that it was *in the south*. So I headed up Calton Hill, and the lights were dancing over Arthur's Seat (to the south)!

It was such an amazing display - in central Edinburgh - that I've been a bit blasΓ© since then!

@jimfrost wonderful pictures, btw!
@patrickhadfield Thank you! I always have a quick look over the shoulder when I’m out looking for the Aurora now πŸ˜€πŸ™πŸ‘
@jimfrost Wow. These are breath-taking, majestic and beautiful, never mind awe-inspiring. Thanks for sharing.
