When I was at the greengrocers I saw they had the jujube fruit for sale & I watched a program about them sometime ago & was interested. Not cheap to buy so I only chose 4 & took them with me for the cuppa with my friends & gave them one each to try. They are ok, apparently sweeter dried whichever is a bit the same as most fruit, but I quite liked them. Kind of like an apple but with a pear texture & they have one stone inside. I’m going to try to grow them. Even though I’m always the optimist I don’t really hold out a lot of hope, but you never know & I have been reading up on how to try. I now have 3 stones sitting on a paper towel drying on the window ledge & the last whole fruit I will eat after my dinner & that will give me 4 seeds of opportunity 😁. #JuJube #Fruit
@feather1952 Never heard of them,but hope they grow well for you Heather
@Philipnschofield
Thanks Phil, I can only try. It wasn’t long ago that I first heard of them myself.
@feather1952 I asume they are an imported fruit ?
@Philipnschofield
Yes, Southern Asia, China & the like. Fairly new to Australia from what I’ve read. I love trying new foods & it’s this type of thing that shows me in just one small way how good multiculturalism is.
@feather1952 Do hope you get a good crop
@Philipnschofield
I’ve got to get those wee seeds to sprout yet 😃.
@feather1952 this is what you get dried in Asian grocers as "red date". Obviously not actually a date! Good luck growing them.
@pelicangut
Thanks. If they do anything it’ll no doubt take quite some time especially as we’re heading into Winter.
@feather1952 My SIL loves them and I think perhaps has one growing in her Adelaide garden? A very great delicacy for her.
@caity
Nice. I hope my seeds sprout.
