Expecting driverless taxis to respect bike lanes “too high a bar” – because customers want to be dropped off in them, autonomous vehicle firm Waymo tells cyclists

Waymo, the autonomous driving tech firm whose so-called ‘robo-taxis’ are now roaming the streets of London, has allegedly told cycling campaigners that expecting their driverless cars to respect cycle lanes is “too high a bar” – because their customers want to be dropped off in them.But Waymo has denied making such a claim, instead pointing ... @ronanmcd

I now see them regularly ( I think they are still testing with human sub behind wheel)

Would I be justified, excused, defended if I carried a small can of spray point (washable) to disable lidar to prevent further illegalities and injuries if I see it happen?

@MatthewNewell @ronanmcd Wouldn't that qualify as property damage instead?

@prokoudine @ronanmcd

There is a kinda proportionality defence if one sees clear and otherwise non-avoidable hazard to life and limb. Very tenuous. I think there would have to be political will behind a prosecution for criminal damage

Cones, lentils, masking tape. Effective tools, with no accusations of damage.

Cones I understand ditto masking tape. How do we utilise lentils?

@MatthewNewell @clickhere @FuckOffGoogle @ronanmcd Lentils? I don't think a big fat fart would affect a self-driving car :)

@prokoudine @clickhere @FuckOffGoogle @ronanmcd I was thinking of throwing a nice floppy daal onto the cameras. Both equally as unlikely.

I should have remembered the correct use but was thinking it was for driverless cars specifically

@clickhere @prokoudine @FuckOffGoogle @ronanmcd

Yeah but it doubles as mid-rude food if no mechanised robo-collision devices are encountered. But yes - anything short of eating with a bit of rice and some sort of flatbread is a waste

@andygates Always tempting, but always risks ultimately leaving you worst off in any situation; and that - giving the driver a 'win' - is unconscionable.
