Often, authorities, politicians, and tech companies work together to push for new laws. One example: when Ashton Kutcher (yes, the actor), through his tech company Thorn, tried to introduce total surveillance of all EU citizens through undemocratic and corrupt methods.

You probably noticed: someone shares an interesting link with you, but the link points to share.google.
Why is that?

When you use the 'share' button on Android, Google injects its tracking redirect link. This only has disadvantages for users:
1️⃣ Previews no longer work.
2️⃣ Unsafe: you can't see where the link goes; it could be evil-phishing.com.
3️⃣ Tracking by Google.

Fortunately, you can turn it off in the settings:

"Google handed over a trove of personal data about a student and journalist to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in response to a subpoena that had not been approved by a judge.

The search giant provided ICE with the usernames, physical addresses, and an itemized list of services associated with the Google account of Amandla Thomas-Johnson, a British student and journalist who attended a pro-Palestinian protest in 2024.

Google also turned over Thomas-Johnson’s IP addresses, phone numbers, subscriber numbers and identities, and credit card and bank account numbers linked to his account."

Google funds all sixteen major European think tanks shaping EU policy. Not *some* of them. All of them. Amazon and Meta fund most of the rest.

This is no longer “poor old me, I need a bit of help,” this is full regulatory capture. With a view to becoming even more embedded into businesses and governments, and getting whatever favorable legislation passed or diluted to suit them.
