I like this idea from #JohnWillinsky and the @PublicKnowledgeProject. Watching with interest.

"We want to show how closely #journals & #authors are adhering to the scholarly standards of #publishing…It’s important that such information is readily available [since it's otherwise hard to find]…We’ve built [an #OpenSource tool] to automatically generate the label…We have created a third-party verification system, too."

Researchers want a ‘nutrition label’ for academic-paper facts

An ‘at a glance’ approach to publication details, such as journal acceptance rates and the number of peer reviewers, would promote transparency, scientists say.

Update. Thanks and congratulations to the @PublicKnowledgeProject for launching the Publication Facts Label.

This standardized transparency for scholarly #journals will help both authors and readers.

The label is generated by a plugin for #OJS journals. But I hope that non-OJS journals eventually use it or something like it.

Announcing the Publication Facts Label for OJS - Public Knowledge Project

PKP sends a call to Journal Editors, Managers, and Publishers to join Publication Facts Label trials for those using Open Journal Systems (OJS).

Public Knowledge Project

Update. I'm very glad to see the #DOAJ endorse the #PKP "Publication Facts" label.

I hope this nudges more publishers to use the labels. In any case, it should lead more readers to expect publishers to use them.

@petersuber @DOAJ @alicemeadows Thank you Peter, DOAJ, and Alice for your support and advocacy around this initiative! PKP is so pleased about the growing interest and uptake of the #PFLabel, and DOAJ's endorsement is a big step toward the goals set out for this journal integrity initiative.
