HI FRIENDS #pdxFedi #pdx

it's been a minute since we got together! Let's plan an outing

The two questions are when and where.

My bias is toward a Sunday afternoon in a public park, but I could be convinced otherwise on either front.

I do think we should make an effort to meet somewhere besides SE this time.

Is Sunday April 26 too soon? Please suggest days times that would work for you!

Where would you like to meet? let's have some opinions!

Ok! Based on my availability and what i saw in the responses, i propose _2_ meetups:

1. Sunday, April 26, Peninsula Park (what time?)

2. Saturday, May 30, tentatively also Peninsula Park but open to ideas (what time?)

I like hanging out in parks with you.

8 days from now, PDX Fedi meetup!
Sunday April 26, at Peninsula Park
I am arbitrarily declaring the time slot to be 2p-4p, and I will bring a sign.

If anyone familiar with the park wants to help me figure out where to gather, that would be delightful.

#pdxFedi #pdx @pdxfedi

This Sunday! April 26, Peninsula Park, 2p-4p
we're having a fediverse hangout! cmon on out, bring your friends.
we will attempt to meet somewhere near the gazebo - exactly where will depend on where we can find space. I will bring a sign!

Forecast looks promising! excited to see folks and check out the rose garden.

#pdxFedi #pdx @pdxfedi

@raphaelmorgan pssstttt.. this is kind of silly but I have been collecting can tabs for you! any chance you can come to the Fedi meetup Sunday for a handoff?
@ansate I've had a long week so I don't want to fully commit spoons, but I think I can do that!
@pdxfedi #pdx #pdxFedi we are set up in the shade just northwest of the gazebo! there’s a sign

yay! we had another successful #pdxfedi meetup :) about 12 people came out, we learned that Peninsula is a beautiful park, but it helps to bring camp chairs! Let's do it again next month! I will start a new thread about it.

@pdxfedi

@ansate @pdxfedi Certainly was a perfect day! Looking forward to seeing you all next month.
@ansate @pdxfedi Have a great Fedi hangout! Waves from Eugene.

@ansate Missed you by two days.

<Waves from France>

@pdxfedi

@ansate @pdxfedi Hope you all have a great meetup. See you next time.
@ansate @pdxfedi looks lovely! Wish I could make it but I'm in Austin this weekend. I'd really rather be enjoying #PDX weather over 90degrees and 90% humidity! 🥵
@ansate @pdxfedi sorry I missed it… Hopefully another time!
@ansate @pdxfedi Aw…wish I could make it. Next time!

@ansate @pdxfedi

O dang, just saw this, don't think I can get there in time now. Next time!

(when is next time?)

@anarchademic @pdxfedi may 30, a saturday! looking like same time same place
@ansate @pdxfedi thanks for organizing. It's always fun!

@ansate @pdxfedi

(it's Sunday at 3pm, and I'm hanging out in Peninsula Park, Dayton OH, wondering where everyone is) 😉 .

@ansate @pdxfedi I'm trying to break out of my social rut, so I hope to be there.

@ansate @pdxfedi

I shall endeavor to attend and meet y'all 😊

@ansate @pdxfedi

It was great to meet everyone! I look forward to future hang outs 🥰

@ansate @pdxfedi I'll swing by after the Blazers game concludes.
Going to experiment on y'all with some chocolate cherry cookies
@ansate @pdxfedi I've gotten swamped today and can't make it over the hill. I'll see yall next month, tho
@zkamvar Sounds good! Have a wonderful day today!

@ansate @pdxfedi there's a shelter with tables here, 45.568035, -122.674298 but I think it requires a reservation

Peninsula Park

Peninsula Park is a formally designed neighborhood park, typical of the early 1900s.

Portland.gov

@PizzaDemon @pdxfedi I am not doing the legwork right now, but i think i have looked into those reservations in the past and they are not free.

Still, it should serve as a landmark!

@ansate @PizzaDemon @pdxfedi Yes, I was just looking at the info & rates for reservations--more than we'd want to spend.

https://www.portland.gov/parks/picnic-reservation

Picnic Reservation

Many of Portland's parks have picnic tables available for use on a first-come, first-served basis. However, if you wish to guarantee a picnic site, you will need to make a reservation in advance.

Portland.gov

@PizzaDemon oh dear, i opened my laptop and looked into it!

you CAN book online. it is NOT free. it's $27 application fee plus the usage fee. (Picnic B is available that day, and has a $70 usage fee)

and the option that looks the most like us is a picnic, no alcohol. BUT there's a tidbit during signup that says you can't make those open to the public, they have to be individual invitations.

i am getting the impression that it gets weird and they want you to call and will want even more money if it's "open"

tl;dr I don't think it makes sense for us to reserve a picnic area

thanks for receiving this data dump

@ansate well I hope to serendipitously, with no forethought, run into y'all at or around that location and time
@PizzaDemon RIGHT? no respect for the planners amongst us
@ansate I'll be at work, so I'll miss this, but it sounds like it's going to be a good time!
@piper <3 sad to miss you! Does the Saturday May 30 probably event work for you?
@ansate I work most Saturdays and Sundays, so these will probably always be tricky for me. I can request the day off, but it's more likely it'll get approved the further in advance I can make the request.
@piper ❤️ “organizing “ these seems to just be having an opinion loudly, so do share if your opinion is that we should meet some weekday evening or happy hour! i am happy to amplify.
@ansate Thanks! I do like the idea of meeting in a park! It's getting into the time of year when an evening in the park could be quite pleasant. Honestly though, May 30 likely would work; I just don't know for sure.

@ansate @pdxfedi Next to the gazebo is a good meeting spot imo - very visible from pretty much the whole park, easy access from pathways, adjacent to the rose garden and fountain, lots of open field near it to gather in.

Locationwise, rose garden is on the south side, gazebo is just north of that, south-center of the park at large.

@c9a @pdxfedi I will try to find that spot and set up if it’s not too occupied
@ansate @pdxfedi I’d vote for Sunday, maybe after 11am? Not too late, not to early or a start time.
@ansate @pdxfedi I like it! I'll be out of town Apr 26 but currently am open May 30 and I'd join in. Flexible on time and location.
@courtney @ansate @pdxfedi Perhaps you can all get licked by Millie the street dog in person. I'm down for either weekend! EDIT: Or both!

@mossyfoot @pdxfedi

yes! Bring Millie! I love other people's dogs

@mossyfoot @ansate @pdxfedi I have no freaking clue who Millie the Street Dog is, but, yes, I want that. 🐶
@courtney @ansate @pdxfedi this sassy grandma from Lake Chapala, Mexico.
@mossyfoot @courtney @ansate @pdxfedi i echo Melissa 's sentiment: I find it very satisfying to see this done on someone else's bed
@ansate @pdxfedi tentative on the 30th & Peninsula park. We have one of those 9a-4p maintenance windows scheduled, but they usually come in the morning.
@ansate @pdxfedi I would be unable to make the first but should be able to make the second, more or less regardless of time.
@ansate I should be available for both, and flexible on time, yay long sunshine hours! ☀️
