Imagine a time when ultrarich media moguls were out in the world trying to actually help people.

Oh, they didn't. They fear death as much as in the old days. It's just nobody treats religion that serious anymore, not even the ultra-religious nutbags. I think religion is more like a tool today for control and pushing some sort of far-right agenda. But the fear is still there, now it's all about "research" about prolonging life or overcome the failing body.
