William B Peckham@georgetakei I am a physicist and I have to point out that they could only get up enough power to build the speed to escape from Earth's gravity well enough to reach the moon through booster rockets that they no longer had available once they left Earth. The great speeds that they recorded were achieved by using the slingshot effect of the gravity of the moon. So that wasn't really their speed under their own power. That was the speed of falling. And in a vacuum you can fall really, really fast!
